Welcome to an informational website on the Batesburg-Leesville water project. This website will provide pertinent information and documentation on the water project.
The current iteration of the Batesburg-Leesville water project consists of a venture between Batesburg-Leesville and Saluda County Joint Water and Sewer for a new water treatment plant. This project began around 1998 and is the culmination of hundreds of hours of work by Batesburg-Leesville and Saluda County Joint Water and Sewer officials.
The water plant will have an initial capacity of up to six million gallons per day. Sustainability is a key goal with this project, so the plant is designed to be able to be expanded to up to 15 million gallons per day. As it is a joint project, Batesburg-Leesville would have the option to buy up to half of that total capacity.
A bigger benefit of the new plant is its planned water source: Lake Murray, a virtually unlimited water supply. The Town Pond, the water reservoir for the existing water plant, is supplied from Brody Creek, which is an unreliable water source -- the flow of Brody Creek is entirely dependent on rainfall.
It is in the best interest of the town to take advantage of this opportunity because of the projected economic growth on the western edge of Lexington County.
